CURRENTLY CASTING!

We are launching a nationwide search to cast two roles in the new musical Interstate, written by award-winning writers Melissa Li and Kit Yan, which will be produced at East West Players in Los Angeles in June 2022. The show is an inspiring tale of a Queer Asian-American band on their first national tour and the ways in which it touches the life of a young transgender teen living in small-town Kentucky.

ADRIAN TONG
Asian-American femme cisgender lesbian, mid-20s

Adrian is a captivating singer-songwriter and guitarist*. Exudes an effortless confidence and beauty. A people pleaser. The brains and soul of their band, and has stage presence and star quality.

*Note: The actor should be comfortable playing basic-to-intermediate acoustic guitar (chords) and rocking out to the instrument. The actor will not need to play any complex fingerpicking or lead electric guitar.

We are seeking actors of East Asian or Southeast Asian descent. Must be based in Los Angeles area. Range: Mezzo. (See note on vocal ranges.)

Note on vocal ranges

Although the music is currently written for SATB, the musical is still in development and are subject to change. We recognize the gender limiting language of voice and musical theater, and encourage people of all unique vocal ranges to submit regardless of the range listed.

Performances & Rehearsal

Rehearsals begin on May 3, 2022. Previews begin Thursday, June 2, 2022, and opens on Sunday June 5, 2022 for a four week run (5 performances a week) through June 26, 2022.

Compensation & Travel

This is a paid role. For the role of Adrian, the actor must be based in LA and there will be no additional compensation for travel/lodging. For union actors part of the Actors Equity Association, you will be paid $476 per week + health and benefits. For non-union actors, you will be paid at the rate of $14 per hour.
